Why Can't We Talk: Christian Wisdom on Dialogue as a Habit of the Heart by John Backman
Reviewed by Barry. I found this book to be a quick and inspiring read on a very important subject. True dialogue asks us to put aside our firmly held assumptions and to make an honest effort to understand other voices. The book provides thought provoking questions and challenges as well as concrete, accessible tools for engaging in true dialogue. Now if we can just get a copy into each of our elected officials the world might be a better place.
Cathedral of the World: A Universalist Theology by Forest Church
Reviewed by Barry. This was my first real grown up theology book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Rev. Church and found his style to be accessible even for us novices. His analogy of the Cathedral with many windows really resonated with me.
Simply Pray: A Modern Spiritual Practice to Deepen Your Life by Erik Walker Wikstrom
Reviewed by Barry. This is a terrific book that provides some wonderful ideas about different types of prayer along with guidance for developing your own prayer practice and creating a set of prayer beads. My beads have not left my wrist since I made them. I recommend this book especially for those who are looking to include a structured prayer practice into their daily lives.
